Open Source Icons

Posted on 08 February 2004 by Demian Turner

This is kinda old hat by now, pardon the pun, one of the Redhat projects some while ago released a great set of open source graphic icons for the public at large, handy stuff if you’re developing apps and you know how hard it is to whip up icons from scratch.

The funny thing is since you have to grab the graphics via CVS I think their popularity is not as widespread as it could have been.

I’ve made a zip of the whole icon collection without the original file structure which was a bit of a nightmare – some great stuff in there.

On a similar subject, there used to be a nice zip of those 80 x 15 icons that have recently sprouted up on everyone’s site – including this one – at Joe Stump’s site but looks like he’s moving servers at the moment.  Don’t know if these mini-icons have a catch name but surely the great thing about them is you can link to so much stuff in so little space.

Be sure to check Joe’s site for more details in next few days – and don’t get misled to the other Joe Stump’s site as I did.

UPDATE:: oops, looks like I took a local copy of the icons – you can download them here.

What license goes with these icons?

Are there limitation on when they can be used?
